United Fights Back Against American With $598 r/t Fares to London

As could be predicted, United Airlines is reacting to American Airlines’ cut-rate fares with its own low fares to London from CLT, DFW, MIA, PHX  and STL.

United Airlines’ low fares are limited to just a 40-day period this Fall, which may be a signal that they want to end the fare war that has delighted travelers and cut into revenue.

I’m not aware of any response from Delta, which also has been attacked by American.

US to European Cities $400+ Round-Trip on American Airlines

American Airlines is at war with United and Delta, attacking those two airlines with super-cheap airfares to Europe from their major hub cities in the United States.

US origination cities are Atlanta, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, Minneapolis, New York / Newark and Salt Lake City.

European destination cities are Amsterdam, Brussels, Frankfurt, Nice, Paris, Rome, Venice and Zurich.

This is another skirmish in this fare war among the Big 3 US-based international carriers, to the benefit of travelers. Combining these low airfares with the strong U.S. dollar means that this year is the year to go to Europe.

Is American Airlines Frequent-Flyer Program Now the Worst?

Dan’s Deals has published a large analysis comparing the frequent flyer programs of American Airlines (AAdvantage), Delta Airlines (SkyMiles) and United Airlines (MileagePlus).

The analysis focuses on Saver award space, which is much less costly in frequent flyer miles than Anytime space. American does not come out well.

Six Airlines Approved for Flights to Cuba

Six American airlines have been approved by the US government for scheduled flights to Cuba.

The six are American Airlines, Frontier, JetBlue, Silver Airways, Southwest, and Sun Country. They will fly to Cuban cities other than Havana, but in the future some may be approved to that popular destination.

The origination cities in the US are Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul, and Philadelphia.

Americans continue to face significant obstacles to Cuban travel, due to the continuing “12 reasons” rule. Abolition of these restrictions may depend upon Congressional action.
